Apprentice of the Year
After a very successful 2022 Apprentice of the Year competition that saw Glenn Murphy of NSW crowned the National winner in Feb this year the event is back for 2023.
The first event will kick off in South Australia with the SA Apprentice of the Year competition proudly sponsored by Thomas Foods International on Tuesday, 6 June, followed a month later with the Western Australian event being held on Tuesday 20 June. The other state events will be scheduled for July and August.

If you have an apprentice working for you or know of an up and coming talented butcher we would encourage you to persuade them to enter as the competitions provide a real chance for them to showcase their skills and shine amongst the best in the business.
The competition day offers networking, personal and professional growth development along with challenge to pit their skills against the best in the industry. They are a great opportunity to meet peers, and learn, gain practical tips from leaders in the meat industry.
Apprentices will be required to sit a theory exam, a practical exam and participate in a mystery box practical challenge, where the apprentices will be required to create value added products from a selection of ingredients.
Judging criteria is based around:
• Preparation and Performance
• Use of Equipment
• Product and Underpinning Knowledge
• Use of Ingredients and Creativity
• Practical Application of End Products.
A full day commitment is required with a $500 first prize up for grabs and $250 for the runner up in each state along with the honour and prestige of being the state champion, the winners will also represent their state at the National Competition, to be held in Queensland in February 2024.
Applications will close one week prior to each event.
