In September 2019, the Fair Work Commission (FWC) announced that they were near the completion of an award modernisation process that commenced in 2014. Further, that the awards would come into effect on various dates throughout 2020. The Meat Industry Award 2010 was part of this modernisation process and from 4th May 2020, the new Meat Industry Award 2020 became effective.

The update included reformatting of the awards for consistency, the addition of uniform clauses such as unpaid family and domestic violence leave, the removal of schedules that are no longer relevant and the temporary inclusion of Schedule X – Addition Measures During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The reformatting of the Meat Industry Award means that several clauses have been shuffled and renumbered but otherwise the content remains the same.

For your reference, AMIC has  created an award comparison document that highlights the differences between the two awards.
