Australians have an opportunity to support local business while putting the finest meats on their tables this Christmas, according to the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC), which is calling on people to ‘love your local butcher’.
It has been a stellar year of AMIC awards, showcasing Australian meat excellence on the state, national, and international stage. From sausage and smallgoods championships to retail butchery competitions, the skill and dedication of Australia’s butchers and smallgoods makers have been on full display throughout 2025.
AMIC CEO Tim Ryan says buying from an independent local butcher not only supports small business and local communities, but gives shoppers access to award winning meat, trusted guidance on cuts, advice on cooking methods, and seasonal favourites.

Meat on the menu in 2026
The festivities will not stop at Christmas, with the nation’s top sausages, burgers and
smallgoods to be announced in Melbourne at the AMIC Australian Meat Excellence Awards in March.
“These awards recognise the craft, skill and dedication of Australia’s best butchers and
smallgoods makers,” Mr Ryan says.
