The state’s top butchers, and apprentices were honoured on Saturday night at the Western Australian Butcher Apprentice of the Year, Sausage King, and Best Burger Awards Gala Dinner, hosted by the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) and proudly sponsored by MBL Food Packaging.
The prestigious event gathered industry leaders, businesses, and supporters in Perth to recognise and celebrate excellence in butchery, craftsmanship, and quality.
Natasha Fisher, Rump Shakers Byford was awarded the 2025 D.R. Johnston Western Australian Apprentice Butcher of the Year, impressing judges with her skill and creativity.
“Everyone from Rump Shakers have always been there for me and pushed me to be better than I can be,” Fisher said upon accepting her award. “My goal in the future is to own my own butcher shop. This job was definitely for me – I just love it.”
The ever-popular Sausage King Competition crowned WA’s best sausages across a range of categories, while the Best Burger Competition highlighted the quality of the state’s butchers in one of Australia’s fastest-growing product categories.
Natasha, and all category winners will now represent Western Australia at the AMIC National Finals in March 2026.
From apprentices just starting their careers to seasoned butchers crafting award-winning sausages and burgers, the State Gala Dinners are regarded as a highlight of the annual industry calendar.
“These awards showcase the incredible talent, innovation, and commitment to quality within WA’s butchery sector,” said Chris Kelly, AMIC State Manager “To have almost 200 attendees spend an evening recognising and celebrating industry in Western Australia was great to see. The future of our industry is in very good hands.”
AMIC extends its congratulations to all winners, finalists, and participants, and thanks the sponsors and supporters whose contributions make the event possible.
